about

In Your Letter is Tom Templeman's look at a 'Dear John' letter. The lyrics show how the letter's recipient bounces between disbelief, sorrow, anger, frustration, and eventually resignation to the end of the relationship.

This song was originally recorded by Tom's band Eyewitness in the early '90s, but as Tom puts it, "Even though it was successful, we never fully captured the sound I was shooting for. With Incognito Cartel, we nailed it!"

lyrics

IN YOUR LETTER
YOU SAID THAT YOUR FEELINGS FOR ME HAD DIED
IN YOUR LETTER
YOU SAID OUR LOVE LEFT YOU UNSATISFIED

SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER
I WAS WARNED NOT TO FALL FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU
SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER
YOU’RE TELLING ME THINGS THAT I KNOW AREN’T TRUE

(chorus)
YOU’RE TELLING ME WE’RE THROUGH
THAT LOOK IS IN YOUR EYES
THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO
GOODBYE

IN YOUR LETTER
YOU SAID THERE WAS SOMEONE OUT THERE FOR ME
IN YOUR LETTER
YOU SAID I WAS BETTER OFF BEING FREE

SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER
DON’T YOU THINK THAT I’VE HEARD THOSE LINES BEFORE
SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER
DON’T TRY TO BE KIND AS YOU CLOSE THE DOOR

(chorus #2)
I’M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU
YOU’VE GOT ME PARALYZED
THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO
GOODBYE

IN YOUR LETTER
YOU SAID YOU WERE SORRY THINGS HAD TO END
IN YOUR LETTER
YOU SAID YOU WOULD STILL LIKE TO BE MY FRIEND

SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER
CAN’T DENY ALL THE FEELINGS I HAVE INSIDE
SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER
GIRL I’M DOWN ON MY KNEES, AAHH, FORGET MY PRIDE

(chorus #2)
